On May 29th, 1968, Constable Mills responded to a motor vehicle collision on Woodbine Avenue. Just south of Vandorf Although it was daylight, foggy conditions prevailed. During his investigation, the officer discovered that one of the drivers was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him for impaired driving.
Constable Mills placed the driver in the rear of his cruiser and surveyed the damage to the vehicles involved in the accident. A motorist travelling northbound panicked at seeing the accident and drove off the roadway and onto the shoulder, fatally striking Constable Mills. He died a short time later at York County Hospital.
Constable Mills was thirty-three years old at the time of his death. He was survived by his wife and three year old daughter. Representatives from over twenty police forces attended the funeral service at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Aurora. |
